This seminar is designed to provide an overview of evidence-based research that links the abuse of substances with traumatic brain injury. The program will begin with a review of neuroplasticity, highlighting aspects that can inform clinical practice. The remainder of the program will be organized around how these principles can be applied to substance use assessment and intervention across treatment settings. Content will address the detrimental neurological effects of substance use following a neurological insult and the potential impact of neurological impact on the areas of occupational performance, including independent living skills, work and driving.
