The Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Center (TBIRC) is proud to announce that we have recently been awarded a grant from the Principle Business Fund of Principle Business Enterprises, Inc. (PBE) to enhance our food pantry and expand resources for the individuals and families we serve. This generous funding will allow us to better address one of the most fundamental needs in recovery and long-term well-being: access to nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals and supportive tools that promote independence.
Expanding Access to Nutritious, Easy-to-Prepare Meals
For many individuals living with a traumatic brain injury, daily tasks such as meal planning and cooking can present significant challenges. This grant will enable TBIRC to stock our pantry with a wider variety of healthy, ready-to-use, and easy-to-prepare food options.
We will prioritize:
- Nutritious, shelf-stable items
- Simple meal kits with minimal preparation steps
- Foods that accommodate a variety of dietary needs
- Options that support cognitive ease and safety during preparation
By reducing barriers to proper nutrition, we aim to support survivors’ physical health, cognitive recovery, and overall quality of life.
Introducing Assistive Devices for Greater Independence
In addition to food supplies, the grant will allow TBIRC to invest in assistive devices that make meal preparation safer and more manageable. These tools can be life-changing for individuals with cognitive, physical, or sensory challenges following a brain injury.
Examples of assistive items include:
- Adaptive kitchen tools (easy-grip utensils, one-handed cutting boards)
- Timers and visual reminders
- Simple safety devices to prevent burns or injury
- Organizational tools that support step-by-step task completion
Providing access to these devices empowers individuals to regain confidence and independence in their daily routines.
